Harry Kane: 'Consistency more important than Premier League Golden Boot'

Harry Kane insists that scoring goals consistently year-on-year for Tottenham Hotspur is more important to him than retaining the Premier League Golden Boot.

Harry Kane has claimed that goalscoring consistency for Tottenham Hotspur is more important to him than retaining the Premier League Golden Boot.

The England international, currently on 28 top-flight goals this term, won the award in 2015-16 and 2016-17.

However, Kane looks set to miss out this season unless he can overhaul Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, currently on 31 league goals, with one fixture left.

Despite the furore on social media when Spurs successfully appealed for Kane to be awarded the second goal in a 2-1 win over Stoke City in March, the 24-year-old insisted that the Golden Boot is not his main objective.

"It's been another good year, another consistent year and hopefully I can score a few more and try to get to that 30-goal mark in the Premier League," Kane told Sky Sports News ahead of the meeting with Leicester City.

"I'm happy, it's been a good season, it's been consistent over the whole season. There's been rare spells where I've not scored, I always try to improve and where I can get better and I've done better than last year.

"Of course, I want to retain the boot but consistency is the most important thing for me, getting 25-plus goals in the Premier League season after season. And there'll always be players who come and do well. Mo's had a fantastic year, who knows what'll happen, but for me it's about doing it year after year."

Kane has made 212 appearances for Spurs, scoring 138 goals and registering 22 assists.
