Romania boss Anghel Iordanescu claims that France "have some shortcomings at the back" ahead of their Euro 2016 clash on Friday night.

Romania boss Anghel Iordanescu has insisted that his team have the credentials to upset France in the opening match of Euro 2016 in Paris on Friday night.

Hosts France are the favourites to triumph on home soil this summer and will be expected to open their tournament with a routine win over Romania in Group A.

Iordanescu, however, has claimed that the Blues have "some shortcomings at the back" and his team will look to take advantage of any nerves in the French capital.

"We're well aware of their attacking potential and all the qualities of what we envisage will be Didier Deschamps's starting XI. Personally I think a match against France is a special one," Iordanescu told reporters. "I think we need to be very clear in our mind what the French are going to demonstrate.

"Our aim is to compete on an even footing with the French and we are going to focus on our capabilities to be able to do so. I expect France to begin the match in a rather aggressive style. I'm sure my players are ready and determined to overcome these spells of pressure from the opposition.

"We don't simply want to play defensively. We want to have a balanced style of play while causing problems for the French. France do have some shortcomings at the back."

Romania are currently ranked number 22 in the world.
