Former Real Madrid striker Fernando Morientes backs Los Blancos to move for a new centre-forward this summer following the departure of Alvaro Morata.

Former Real Madrid striker Fernando Morientes has tipped Los Blancos to move for a new centre-forward this summer, but the Spaniard does not expect AS Monaco's Kylian Mbappe to arrive at the Bernabeu.

Alvaro Morata finalised his move from Real Madrid to Chelsea on Friday night, leaving Karim Benzema as the Spanish club's only central striker ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.

Morientes has backed Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane to move for a new forward in this summer's transfer window, but the Spaniard has played down speculation linking his former club with a move for 18-year-old Mbappe.

"For Morata, they might sign new player," Morientes told Goal.com. "The transfer window is open, so there should be many talks. There was a rumor about Mbappe, but he won't leave Monaco yet, as he is young. I think he wants to gain more experience for one year."

Morientes scored 72 league goals for Real Madrid between 1997 and 2005.
