Atletico Madrid's "moment" to win the Champions League has arrived, according to former Barcelona captain Xavi.

Former Barcelona captain Xavi has tipped Atletico Madrid to overcome Real Madrid in the 2016 Champions League final.

The two Madrid rivals will face off for the European Cup in Milan on Saturday night in what is a repeat of the 2014 final, when Real Madrid triumphed in extra time.

Xavi, however, who won the trophy four times with Barcelona, has claimed that Atletico's "moment" has arrived to win the top prize in club football.

"I believe that Atletico will take home the trophy. I think this is the moment of Atletico," Xavi told sc.qa.

"They deserve it because of the work they are doing. Of course it is not the philosophy of play that I like the most, because they speculate and wait in defence, but I think it is the moment of Atletico Madrid.

"Football always gives you a second chance, and it is the same final as two years ago in Lisbon. Now we have the final in Milan and I think it is the time of Atletico Madrid."

Xavi, 36, currently represents Al Sadd in Qatar.
