Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez admits that he was disappointed to see his side only draw 1-1 with Burnley on Wednesday night.

Manager Rafael Benitez has admitted that his side should have recorded a win over Burnley on Wednesday night, rather than having to settle for a 1-1 draw.

After Joselu had missed a penalty, Jamaal Lascelles gave the Magpies the lead before an own goal from goalkeeper Karl Darlow gifted the Clarets a share of the spoils at St James' Park.

Newcastle sit in 14th place in the Premier League table - just one point above the relegation zone - but Benitez has acknowledged that he was not satisfied with a stalemate against the division's seventh-placed team.

The 57-year-old is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "We created enough to win the game, we had enough chances to score the second or third goal and finish the game, but we didn't do it. For the effort, the way we were playing, we deserved to win.

"It's a pity because Joselu is working so hard but as a striker everybody is expecting you to score goals."

Newcastle are next in action when they face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon.
