Newcastle United welcomed Everton to St James' Park on Sunday looking to record their first Premier League win in four games.
Arouna Kone's first goal for Everton sent the away side into a fifth-minute lead, but Papiss Cisse levelled the scores after 34 minutes.
Newcastle were ahead after 51 minutes when Ayoze Perez found the bottom corner, before Jack Colback made it 3-1 after 68 minutes.
Kevin Mirallas scored Everton's second late on, but the home side held on to secure all three points.

3.21pmSo there we have it. In come Mike Williamson, Cheick Tiote and Papiss Cisse for Newcastle this afternoon, with Steven Taylor, Vurnon Anita and Adam Armstrong dropping out of the XI. Ayoze Perez keeps his spot in the team, while Jack Colback and Moussa Sissoko both start in the middle of the park.
3.24pmEverton, meanwhile, are without first-choice goalkeeper Tim Howard and their captain Phil Jagielka through injury. As a result, Joel Robles starts between the sticks and Luke Garbett comes into the defence. Leighton Baines will seemingly start in midfield, while there is also a starting spot for Arouna Kone.
3.27pmEverton have won four of the last five meetings between the two sides, including both matches last season. At Goodison Park, the Toffees recorded a 3-2 win, before beating Newcastle 3-0 at St James' Park in March. Everton have also scored 13 times in the last five meetings between the pair.
3.30pmThat said, Newcastle have won 42 of the 79 league meetings between the two sides on home soil – drawing 18 and losing 19 times in the process. Last season, this was a clash between two upwardly-mobile sides, but both teams have struggled for consistency in the first half of the 2014-15 campaign.
3.33pmNewcastle's 3-1 defeat at Manchester United on Boxing Day made it three straight losses in the league for the Magpies, with that run of form leaving Alan Pardew's side 10th in the table. They were also thumped 4-0 by Tottenham Hotspur in the quarter-finals of the League Cup on December 17.
3.36pmEarlier in the season, Newcastle went on a six-match winning run in all competitions – including victories over Manchester City, Tottenham and Liverpool, but their inconsistency has returned in recent weeks. That said, victory this afternoon would move them into the top half of the table.
3.39pmIn truth, scoring goals has been a problem for Newcastle this season. Papiss Cisse, who starts this afternoon, has hit eight in all competitions, but struggles to last the full 90 minutes, while the likes of Remy Cabella and Emmanuel Riviere have failed to fulfill their promise. In total, Newcastle have managed just 19 goals in their 18 league games. Down the other end, they have conceded 26 times thus far.
3.42pmThat said, Newcastle's defensive record is stronger than Everton's at this stage of the season. The Toffees have conceded 28 times in the league this season – the fourth-worst record in the division, but they have scored 27 times, which has been one of the few positives in the first half of the campaign.

3.45pmNewcastle's home form this season has been fairly strong with four wins and just two defeats from their eight matches, but they have won just two of their 10 league games on the road. If the Magpies are to secure a top-10 finish this term then their form at St James' Park will need to be strong.
3.48pmEverton, however, have problems of their own. Roberto Martinez's side made a strong push for the top four last season, but they are struggling this time around. As it stands, a total of 21 points from 18 matches has left them in 12th spot – 11 points off the top four at this stage of the campaign.
3.51pmThe Toffees have lost four of their last six in the league, while they are on a four-game winless away run. Last time out, the Merseyside outfit lost 1-0 at home to Stoke City – a result that did not please the supporters. They were also beaten comfortably at Southampton in their final match before Christmas.

This season, they have already been beaten seven times, which is barely top-half form. A result here, however, would at least offer some encouragement to the club's supporters.
3.57pmKeeping with last season, Everton had kept eight clean sheets in their first 18 games of the 2013-14 campaign, but they have managed just three this term. In truth, both Jagielka and Distin have struggled to find consistency, while Coleman and Baines are also currently short of their best.
4.01pmLooking ahead for a moment, Newcastle welcome Burnley to St James' Park on New Year's Day, before travelling to Leicester City in the FA Cup on January 3. Following that clash, the Magpies face Chelsea and then Southampton in a period that could well define their season.

9 minIt's good work from Janmaat as the Newcastle right-back drives into the Everton box before attempting to role one towards Cisse, but the Dutchman is crowded out at the vital moment. The home supporters have stayed with their side in the early moments, which is so important at this stage of the match.
11 minNewcastle have a free kick in an advanced area as Barry brings Sissoko to the ground...
12 min... Colback delivers towards the far post, but Distin is on hand to head clear. Eventually the ball falls for Janmaat outside the box, but he lashes wide and Everton have a goal kick with 12 minutes played.
12 minCHANCE! Incredible chance for Newcastle to equalise as Cisse flicks a long ball into the path of Sissoko, who only has the goalkeeper to beat, but the Frenchman's touch is too strong and the chance evaporates. What an opportunity for the home side to level the scores at St James'.

You just get the feeling that we have not seen the last of the goals. In the last two minutes, Newcastle have started to exert some pressure.

35 minWe are all level here! Newcastle equalise with 34 minutes on the clock as Cisse converts from close range following a brilliant pull-back from Williamson, who was unmarked at the far post. That is Cisse's ninth goal of the season. It was not an easy finish, but he made it look straightforward.
37 minEverton look to respond down the other end as Eto'o slides a low pass towards Kone, but Alwick is quick off his line to clear. Suddenly the stadium is alive and we have a proper, proper game on our hands.
39 minHalf-chance for Everton as Kone meets a corner from Baines, but his header was always moving wide of the post. Little over five minutes of the first period remaining and the score is level at 1-1.
41 minThe tempo has just dropped in the last couple of minutes, which is not surprising as the first period draws to a close. Both of these sides played on Boxing Day and the second half could be a bit of a slog. Ultimately quality should tell, but there has not been too much intensity for long spells of this first half.
