Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hopes that Edinson Cavani will sign a new 12-month deal at the club.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains "hopeful" that Edinson Cavani will sign a new 12-month contract extension with the club.

The Uruguay international's current deal at Old Trafford is due to expire at the end of June, and there have been suggestions that the experienced forward is keen to return to South America this summer.

A recent report claimed that Cavani had now decided to remain at Man United for another 12 months, though, having enjoyed an impressive last few weeks for the club.

Solskjaer has said that there is no concrete news when it comes to the 34-year-old, but the Norwegian has revealed that the pair have "had some good conversations lately".

"We've had some good conversations lately. Even though the position is still in his court I'm still hopeful," Solskjaer told reporters.

"Maybe more so when you see him on Thursday against Roma, then after that game talking to him about when you do that in front of the Stretford End that's different, that's magic. I'm still hopeful."

Cavani has scored 12 times and registered five assists in 33 appearances for the 20-time English champions during the 2020-21 campaign.
