Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe confirms that Manchester United have expressed an interest in signing forward Josh King before the end of Friday.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe has acknowledged that Manchester United have made an approach for Josh King.

United are eager to bring in a replacement for the injured Marcus Rashford before the end of the January transfer window, resulting in a wide range of forwards being linked with a switch to Old Trafford.

The latest of those is King, who spent time in the youth setup at United before making two substitute appearances for the senior side in cup competitions.

Rather than dismiss the speculation, Howe has chosen to open up on the topic, revealing that United have made contact and that it is currently under discussion with the owner and King.

Speaking at a press conference, Howe told reporters: "I'm not going to deny anything you have read but I don't want to talk about it too much. He is much valued and loved by us. He is a massive part of our team, he brings that unique pace and strength, coupled with technical ability and an eye for goal.

"We have missed him since he has been out injured, so speaking as manager I would be very reluctant to let him leave. With a day to go in the window it's very difficult to find a replacement," the Bournemouth manager added.

"It's going to be a decision between the chief executive and owner. I love Josh as a player and person. I know what Manchester United means to him with his history with the club, so I understand his position."

The 28-year-old, who has been out injured since the end of 2019, has contributed 47 goals from 160 appearances for the Cherries since signing on a free transfer in 2015.
