Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho admits that he is "worried" about Manchester City's eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has admitted that he is "worried" about the eight-point gap which now separates his side from runaway Premier League leaders Manchester City.

The Red Devils fell to their second defeat of the season on Sunday as they went down 1-0 at the hands of Chelsea, having seen City continue their relentless form with victory over Arsenal earlier in the day.

Pep Guardiola's side have dropped just two points from their opening 11 games to take control of the title race, although Mourinho insists that they have not opened up an unassailable gap just yet.

"We are worried, but there are 18 teams more worried than us because we are second," he told reporters.

"Eight points in the Premier League is not the same in Portugal, La Liga or the Bundesliga. Yes, it is eight points but there is still a lot of play. I hope, feel, think and wish that in the busy festive period and new year we are going to be at maximum strength with Paul Pogba, [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo back."

United's next outing comes at home to Newcastle United after the international break.
