Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag lavished praise on "big talent" Rasmus Hojlund when asked about Harry Kane ahead of Wednesday's clash with Bayern Munich.

The Red Devils were heavily linked with Kane at the start of the summer transfer window, but the England captain ultimately made the move to Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur.

Man United instead boosted their attack with the acquisition of Hojlund from Atalanta BC, and the Denmark international has featured in the team's last two matches.

The 20-year-old thought that he had scored on his home debut against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, only for the goal to be chalked off, with the ball going out of play before Marcus Rashford crossed into his teammate.

Man United will come face-to-face with Kane on Wednesday in the Champions League, and during his pre-match press conference, Ten Hag was questioned on the club's interest in him.

"I think we discussed it in San Diego so I don't think we have to repeat this debate," the Man United head coach told reporters. "We are happy with Rasmus.

"Obviously, in the first games, he was injured. He played against Arsenal and now he has had his first start.

"So now, of course, we have to integrate him into the team but you can see he is a big talent and he will contribute to our game. We are quite confident about that."

Ten Hag is also confident that Hojlund and Marcus Rashford, who has only scored once this season, can form an effective partnership in the final third of the field.

"The two can benefit from each other. But they have to know each other and that process has only just started. At the same time, we need results and so it has to go hand in hand," he added.

"But we learn from every training [session] and we learn from every game. Of course, we reflect togetherness and, of course, we lead that as a coaching staff. But we have also seen that Rasmus and Rashy are together, they're talking about how they can benefit from it.

"So you can see that discussion, that interaction on the pitch is going on, and that is a good sign. I'm sure they will get that connection. I think the connection is already there but I think they will get there."

Kane would allegedly have been willing to wait to join Man United on a free transfer in 2024, had he been given guarantees over a move to Old Trafford next summer.
