Manchester United winger Memphis Depay insists that he will not be happy with a bit-part role at the club this season.

Manchester United winger Memphis Depay has insisted that he will not be happy with a "supporting role" at the club.

The 22-year-old endured a disappointing debut campaign in English football last season and has so far found himself out of favour under new manager Jose Mourinho.

The Dutchman has been on the pitch for just 94 minutes in all competitions this term - only 12 of which have come in the Premier League - but he is eager to fight for his place in the side.

"The training sessions are going well, I'm sharp and fit. But that applies to everyone. The level has become higher. Jose Mourinho is a top coach. The feeling is different. Mourinho has expressed its confidence in me. Personally, but also in the press. I'd rather not talk about last season. That happened – about what I could have done better, it is clear – I should have played better," he told MetroNieuws.

"I am the same person and I know what I want. A supporting role is not for me. I'm not a player who is happy with the fact that he is under contract with Manchester United. This is my dream club, but I want to play.

"I feel like a loaded gun but I have to wait for my chance in the first team. I am at my dream club and I want to fight for my place. It is a man's sport, it's not as if I need to be comforted. I am still convinced of my abilities."

Memphis has made only one start in all competitions under Mourinho.
