Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick is hopeful that his side's 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur will be the start of a good run of form.

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has insisted that there is still more to come from his side following their 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon.

United closed the gap on the top four to six points courtesy of Henrikh Mkhitaryan's goal, although the in-form Armenian was later stretchered off with an ankle injury.

Jose Mourinho's side were able to see the win out in the closing stages - something which has not always been the case in recent weeks - and Carrick is hopeful that the result will be the start of a good run of form.

"We needed to get a run going and hopefully that can be the start of it. We haven't hit top gear and we're playing catch up so we're happy with the three points. I think you can understand the late nerves the way results have gone. It wasn't our prettiest performance in recent weeks but we dug in, created chances and overall a good performance," he told reporters.

"It was a test for us. You can look at the table and think there is a long way to catch up, Tottenham are a good team but we showed good character. We have said it for a number weeks that it'll turn, Sometimes you have to just find a win from somewhere. There's still a lot to come from us.

"Henrikh Mkhitaryan is so talented, clever, such a nice lad and I just hope his injury is not too bad."

The victory also saw United end a four-match winless streak at Old Trafford in the league.
