Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero did not suffer ligament damage in his collision with Diego Costa on Tuesday evening, the Argentinian FA confirms.

Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero has avoided a serious knee injury after hobbling off in Argentina's 6-1 loss to Spain on Tuesday night.

The 31-year-old appeared to be facing a long spell on the sidelines when being forced off midway through the first half following an earlier collision with Diego Costa.

While the length of Romero's layoff is unclear, Argentina's FA has moved to clarify that the United stopper - used nine times by Jose Mourinho this term - did not sustain ligament damage.

"Sergio Romero suffered a trauma in his right knee," the tweet read. "The studies performed ruled out serious bone and ligament injuries."

Romero has started all four FA Cup games for United this season and, fitness permitting, is expected to start the semi-final against Tottenham Hotspur on April 21.
