How Manchester City could line up against Newcastle United

Sports Mole looks at how Manchester City could line up in Saturday's Premier League clash with Newcastle United.

Manchester City's pursuit of Premier League leaders Liverpool will continue on Saturday afternoon when they make the trip to Newcastle United.

The Citizens returned to winning ways at home to Chelsea last weekend, but the reigning champions are still nine points off Liverpool heading into the next set of fixtures.

Pep Guardiola's side were in Champions League action during the week, drawing 1-1 at home to Shakhtar Donetsk, which saw them book their spot in the round of 16 as section winners.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how City could line up at St James' Park.

POSS CITY XI vs. NEW

Out: Leroy Sane (knee), Aymeric Laporte (knee), Sergio Aguero (thigh), Oleksandr Zinchenko (knee)

City will again be without four members of their first-team squad for this weekend's clash with Sergio Aguero joining Leroy Sane, Aymeric Laporte and Oleksandr Zinchenko on the sidelines.

Aguero joined the injury list when he suffered a thigh problem in the 2-1 win over Chelsea last time out.

As a result, Gabriel Jesus will start through the middle, while Bernardo Silva is also expected to return to the front three having missed out against Frank Lampard's team through suspension.

Fernandinho and John Stones should again start as the two central defenders, with Benjamin Mendy and Joao Cancelo in the full-back spots, although Kyle Walker is another option for the champions.

Ilkay Gundogan scored against Shakhtar in the Champions League during the week, and the Germany international could get the nod over David Silva alongside Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri in midfield.
