Vincent Kompany admits that he wants to be "connected" with Manchester City for the rest of his life and believes that he still has a lot to offer the club as a player.

Vincent Kompany has admitted that he wants to be "connected" with Manchester City for the rest of his life.

On Wednesday, the Belgium defender celebrated 10 years since joining the Citizens from German club Hamburger SV for a reported £7.6m fee.

Kompany has been plagued by injuries in recent years but has bounced back numerous times, and the centre-back believes that he is still improving as a player.

"I think what people have never really understood with me is that aside from having had some injuries I'm actually really lucky to be a really good athlete naturally so I still feel mobile, I still feel strong, that I'm improving and I'm learning so much more about the game," the 32-year-old said in an interview with the City website.

"I'm not stressed or nervous about any possible scenario because I've prepared for every eventuality. I'm enjoying the game more than than I've probably ever enjoyed the game. Probably my first year at City and this last year now have been the best in my career so you want to make it last as long as you can, for sure.

"I feel like I can still give something back. We'll see what level and to what extent but in many ways I've received too much from the game to put it behind me and go on a 45 year holiday, it's not for me.

"I'll be connected with City for the rest of my life, as a fan, as an employee, as an ambassador. Whatever City decide or I decide, it's not something we can undo. We've had 10 years together and 10 years at City with the transitions we've had is like 30 years at another club, trust me. So it's cemented, we're tied to each other for life."

Kompany made his first start of the season in Man City's 6-1 win over Huddersfield Town last weekend.
