Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne claims that his side's 100-point haul in the Premier League this season is an achievement which may never be matched.

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has claimed that his side's record-breaking 100-point haul in the Premier League this season may never be beaten.

City became the first team in English top-flight history to reach the century mark for points courtesy of a last-gasp win over Southampton on the final day of the season on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola's men finished 19 points clear of second-placed Manchester United at the top of the table, although De Bruyne acknowledged that such dominance will be tough to repeat again next season.

"We all knew if we get 100 points it would be something so special and it is probably very difficult to manage again," De Bruyne told reporters.

"It was the only thing to play for and, if you end the season that way, last minute, last kick of the season, and you get 100 points, it feels unbelievable. In the end we broke the record – 100 points is something special. Three digits is very difficult to manage again and to be part of that means a lot.

"We have the most points ever and with the competition you have with all the big teams it is very tough and to get 100 points and lose only 14 in the whole season is something special. You all start from nil again [next season] and to do the same is probably impossible but we have to try."

Man City also set new marks for the number of wins and goals scored in a Premier League season.
