Ten-man Manchester City leapfrogged Southampton into second place courtesy of a 3-0 victory at St Mary's Stadium this afternoon.
The deadlock was broken early in the second half through Yaya Toure, before Eliaquim Mangala was handed his second booking of the contest for a foul on Shane Long.
However, City made a mockery of their numerical disadvantage courtesy of goals from substitute Frank Lampard and left-back Gael Clichy.

"We are confident we can cause Man City problems. Everyone knows it is going to be a hard game, a very tight game. It should be an interesting game. We want to win every game, and we know we can cause problems to any team at St Mary's. We prepared as best as ever to show Man City and the Premier League what we are about again."

"We have the chance to show our qualities against a very good squad. We must keep our way of playing, everybody knows that way, but it is more difficult to show that against the big teams."

— Manchester City FC (@MCFC) November 30, 2014"Southampton is a very good team with good players and they are playing very well. If you review last season, I think Southampton was very near this position in this week. They have very good players and they play well I don't know exactly the amount of points, but it was an important team also - especially in the first round of fixtures so for me it is not a surprise."

£35m for Mangala. Time to bring some common sense back into the game.
