Kane: 'We can win World Cup'

England striker Harry Kane says that the team should take inspiration from Liverpool's Champions League campaign.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has claimed that England are capable of winning the World Cup in Russia.

The 24-year-old has been selected as captain for the tournament, which gets underway next month.

The Three Lions have struggled in major competitions in recent years, but Kane believes that the team can use the underdog tag to their advantage.

The Tottenham star drew on Liverpool's campaign towards the Champions League final, insisting that not many would have tipped Jurgen Klopp's side to reach the showdown in Kiev.

"I think we can win it. We're not going to be favourites to win it," Kane told reporters. "We know we're not favourites to win it but you look at this season for example, nobody would have thought Liverpool would have got to the Champions League final and they did.

"You look at Man United, in the [Sir Alex] Ferguson days, when they had a young team and dominated the Premier League for years to come.

"It's not really an excuse that we're young, it could be a good thing. I believe we can win it and that's what we're trying to do. Anything else is not good enough, really."

England will face Belgium, Panama and Tunisia in Group G, with their opening match against Tunisia on June 18.
