Wolverhampton Wanderers are allegedly contemplating an approach for Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher at a time when they may sell Jose Sa.

Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has allegedly emerged as a potential transfer target for Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Kelleher has been with the Merseyside giants since 2015, initially featuring in the academy setup upon his move from Irish side Ringmahon Rangers.

The 24-year-old has since emerged as a valuable option in Jurgen Klopp's squad, starring in the EFL Cup as Liverpool won the 2021-22 final on penalties against Chelsea.

However, despite his age, the Republic of Ireland has been provided with just 21 matches in the senior ranks, with only five of those outings coming in the Premier League.

With Alisson Becker the undisputed number one at Anfield, Kelleher faces the prospect of another unproductive campaign on the substitutes' bench.

Klopp has also insisted that it would 'take extraordinary money' for he or Liverpool to consider selling a player who still has three years remaining on his contract.

Nevertheless, according to the Daily Mail, Wolves hold an interest in Kelleher at a time when they need to resolve their own goalkeeping options.

Although Jose Sa has been first choice since his arrival in 2021, it was claimed earlier this week that Nottingham Forest were toying with an approach for the Portuguese stopper.

Much will depend on whether Forest are successful in their efforts to secure a reunion with Manchester United stopper Dean Henderson, who spent last season on loan at the City Ground.

Sa is regarded as a realistic alternative due to Evangelos Marinakis being the owner of both Forest and Olympiacos, his former employers before his switch to Wolves.

While Wolves would expect to make a profit on the £6.25m that they shelled out on Sa two years ago, Liverpool would allegedly request in the region of £20m for Kelleher.

Having only just got on the right side of FFP matters, Wolves are unlikely to go as high as that asking price, although the two clubs have a positive working relationship after conducting business in the past.

Kelleher, whose last appearance for Liverpool ironically came in an FA Cup tie with Wolves in January, is keen to secure regular football for 2023-24.
