Jordan Henderson: 'Too early to talk about Liverpool title challenge'

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson celebrates following the team's Premier League victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on September 16, 2016
Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson insists that it is too early to talk about a title challenge despite moving joint top of the table with victory over West Brom.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has played down talk of his side challenging for the Premier League title this season.

The Reds moved level on points with Arsenal at top of the table courtesy of a 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion this evening, although Gareth McAuley's late strike prevented them from climbing above the Gunners on goal difference.

The win capped off a good day for Jurgen Klopp's side after both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur had dropped points, but Henderson stressed that there is still room for improvement.

"We were disappointed conceding from a set piece as we had worked on that. We had handled it well until the goal. From that point on, they lumped the ball forward to put pressure on us, we coped with it well to see the game out," he told BT Sport.

"First half we were very good with the ball, it got a bit nervy after their goal. We need to build on that and stop the goal from the set piece.

"It is too early for that talk [about the title race] we have to concentrate on each game, it is a bonus teams around us dropped points but the main aim for us is to get three points."

Liverpool are now unbeaten in 17 home games in all competitions.
