Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp blasts Liverpool's personnel after the club failed to sign a centre-back and a striker in the summer transfer window.

Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp has claimed that Liverpool's personnel are not good enough after the club failed to sign a centre-back or a striker in the transfer window.

The Sky Sports pundit blasted Jurgen Klopp's side and suggested that the club's defensive frailties will not go away until they sign a marquee defender.

Redknapp also highlighted the Reds' lack of a designated striker, despite the club already boasting an impressive forward line.

"[Liverpool's season] hasn't been great because of all the frailties and all the problems we knew would be there," Redknapp told The Express.

"For instance, the defending isn't good enough. That's why he wanted to buy a centre-back for £60m. Unfortunately, when you don't get that player it unsettles the rest of the defence. They have defended poorly.

"And they haven't really got that out-and-out goalscorer. You need someone that's going to be like [Romelu] Lukaku or [Harry] Kane that's going to get you 25 goals a season. They haven't really got that player at the moment."

Liverpool face Maribor in the Champions League on Tuesday before travelling to Wembley for a Premier League tie against Tottenham Hotspur next Sunday.
