Alex Inglethorpe: 'Jurgen Klopp will give young Liverpool players a chance'

Liverpool youth director Alex Inglethorpe says that manager Jurgen Klopp is committed to bringing youngsters into the first team.

Liverpool youth director Alex Inglethorpe has claimed that the entire academy has been uplifted by Jurgen Klopp's desire to bring youngsters through to the senior team.

The German coach, who replaced Brendan Rodgers as manager last month, visited the academy on just his second day in charge of the Merseyside club.

In the Reds' 1-0 win over Bournemouth in the Capital One Cup, Klopp gave a debut to Connor Randall and first starts to Cameron Brannagan and Joao Carlos Teixeira.

"There's a genuine desire to play the kids which is what everyone wants to see and hear," Inglethorpe told the Liverpool Echo. "You can see that there is an authenticity around how [Klopp] works.

"To see three boys from here make their full debuts at Anfield gave everyone a huge boost. We have been very lucky in the last three years that we have had boys get in and be given opportunities.

"Of course whenever there is a change, it's only natural to wonder how easy that pathway is going to be, but soon after Jurgen arrived it was made very clear that if they are good enough they will be given a chance."

The senior team will take on Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
