Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker claims that his side are taking two steps backwards and one step forwards following their 3-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker believes that his side are taking two steps backwards and one step forwards following their 3-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.

The out-of-sorts Reds suffered three successive Premier League defeats away from home for the first time since 2012 on Saturday, being made to pay for an atrocious start.

Joel Matip's own goal gave Julen Lopetegui's men the lead on the five-minute mark before debutant Craig Dawson doubled Wolves' advantage after 12 minutes, firing home into the roof of the net after some more dreadful Reds defending.

Jurgen Klopp's men improved after the half-time break, but Wolves held firm at the back and added a third in the 71st minute through Ruben Neves to rub salt into the wounds.

Defeat to Wolves follows 3-1 and 3-0 losses to Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion respectively for Liverpool, who are still winless in the Premier League in 2023.

Speaking to BBC Sport after the contest, a dejected Alisson claimed that Liverpool "do not act" like they believe in themselves on the field, saying: "Looks like in the game we went two steps behind then we make one step forward, we need to do more steps because of the results.

"Step forward was the second half performance, two completely different sides first and second half. We have to take that for the next game and using the chances we have and stop conceding the silly goals.

"Sometimes in football you make mistakes and you get punished. We did that again and again. Two mistakes, two goals at the beginning of the game. We are making things hard for ourselves.

"After that we did a great second half. We could have done better on the third goal but it is a good moment from the opponent.

"I don't know what we need to happen to us to wake up. We come here, say we have to believe in ourselves but we don't act like that on the pitch or deserve that. Again, we have to put this behind us and take strength from ourselves and families to bounce back."

Liverpool's humbling loss at Molineux leaves them smack-bang in the middle of the Premier League table in 10th place, 10 points adrift of the Champions League places after 20 matches.

Next up for the Reds on February 13 is an Anfield Merseyside derby with Everton, whose reign under Sean Dyche began with a shock 1-0 win over league leaders Arsenal earlier on Saturday.

"We have no consistency at all through the 90 minutes, focused and doing what we have to do on the pitch fighting," Alisson added.

"First 15 minutes we started the game not in a good way and we got punished for that. Conceding two goals, we are not in a good situation. They are confident, we tried, did a good second half but conceded again. Completely frustrated.

"We have to think of the next games. We are not in a position to think too much about the end of the season. We have to think about what we can do now and win the next game in front of us and that's it."

Reds manager Klopp also admitted that he was lost for words after overseeing yet another woeful away defeat in the Premier League.
