Doping test at Asian Cup 'gives Jordan player hypothermia'

A doping test at the Asian Cup in Australia allegedly gave a Jordanian striker "hypothermia" after he had to drink "several litres of water" to give a urine sample.

A Jordanian striker has allegedly caught hypothermia and may miss their next game after being forced to drink "several litres of water" in order to give a urine sample at a doping test.

Ahmad Hayel, 31, needed to give a sample after being randomly selected following his country's 1-0 defeat to Iraq.

Jordanian FA general secretary Fadi Zureikat told BBC Sport that Hayel was left in a "semi-coma and with hypothermia", was given no salts or minerals with the water and that the forward was unconscious when taken back to the team hotel in a private car.

Hayel may now miss Jordan's next game, against Palestine on Friday. The team are managed by former England international Ray Wilkins, who called the behaviour of drug officials "dangerous".

Asian Cup officials said they were waiting for a report into the incident.
