Hull City caretaker manager Mike Phelan reveals that he will remain in charge of the club until a takeover is completed.

Hull City caretaker boss Mike Phelan has revealed that he will be in charge of the team until a takeover is completed.

Former manager Steve Bruce left the club just three weeks before the start of the new season, but that did not prevent Phelan from overseeing a shock 2-1 victory over champions Leicester City this afternoon, despite having just 13 senior players to choose from.

Phelan was delighted with the result, but admitted that there is still uncertainty as to how long he would have the reins for.

"We set our stall out to make sure we had a foothold in the game. It was great to see everyone pulled together and we got a result that surprised a few people. It's a difficult situation for players but they are professionals," he told BBC Sport.

"They've earned the right to be here and they enjoyed themselves. The icing on the cake is when you get a result. The players bonded well together and all put that extra bit in.

"All I'm aware of is that a takeover is happening. It's not a finalised deal yet. I'm in charge up to that point. I agreed to that. There's a week to the next game and a lot will happen in that time I'm sure. We're working hard. I'm sure Steve [Bruce] will have enjoyed that result as well."

Hull are the first newly-promoted side to win on the opening day of a Premier League season since 2012.
