The Terriers bow out of the top flight with a game against Southampton.

Jan Siewert wants to draw a line under this campaign as Huddersfield look to move on next season in the Sky Bet Championship.

The Terriers have lost 10 out of 12 games since Siewert took charge in January and were relegated in March following a 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, with six games left to play.

Huddersfield’s current owner and chairman Dean Hoyle will oversee his last match in charge of the Yorkshire side when they take on Southampton on Sunday, with fan and local businessman Phil Hodgkinson set to take over.

Siewert said: “We need to be stable next season.

“Everyone who works with the club has had a taste of the Premier League and we want to get back but it’s important that we, the chairman and I, know that this can be possible if you take the right steps to success.”

On moving on from this season, he added: “I would say that it’s important to draw the line and get rid of the s***, some things in football happen and then you have to get rid of it.

“Important for me is when we start next season that everything is away from it, which I’ve also told the players.

“We start fresh next season. I’m not a negative person so for me it’s important to work on solutions and not on problems because problems have been there this season but next season we work on solutions.”

Siewert would not be drawn into discussing the future of Aaron Mooy and Terence Kongolo until after the Southampton game.

Midfielder Mooy has played 30 times for Huddersfield this season, scoring three times, while Kongolo has been a significant contributor in defence.

On preparing his squad for next season, the 36-year-old Siewert added: “It’s very important to have the squad together as quick as possible but of course there are some difficulties.

“It’s important for us that we know that it can’t just be done in one transfer window.

“You need a really competitive squad in this championship because there are a lot of games.

“With the number of games you can’t just have 20 players, it’s not enough.”

The Huddersfield boss wants a good performance at St Mary’s, adding: “We can once more show our fighting spirit and hopefully end the season with a win.”
