As crazy as I thought – Hamilton striker’s first impressions of Scottish football

Fredrik Brustad is enjoying his first few weeks in Scotland

Norwegian striker Fredrik Brustad admits his expectations of “crazy” Scottish footballers have been met in his short time at Hamilton.

The 29-year-old joined Accies on a season-long loan deal from Molde on the final day of the transfer window and scored his first goal in the 3-0 win over St Mirren in the Ladbrokes Premiership last weekend.

Brustad surveyed his first few weeks in Scotland and said: “It is pretty much what I expected. In Norway we expect Scottish men to be tough and aggressive and  a little bit crazy and it fits my opinion pretty well.

“There is maybe one or two (in Norway) but here it is almost everyone.”

On his move, Brustad added: “An opportunity arose through an agent. I needed some game time. I hadn’t been playing as much as I wanted to and I saw this to be a good opportunity so I took it.

“We played against Hibernian in the third round of the Europa League qualifiers. I didn’t play in that game but it was a good experience, a nice stadium and a nice atmosphere so it was tempting to try it out.”

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s visit of Dundee, Brustad added: “It is getting better and better each day. There is a good bunch of lads.

“Of course in the beginning it is different when you come to a new club, a new country and everything but I think it has gone well.”

And the striker rejected suggestions that Hamilton would be involved in another relegation fight.

“From what I have seen from the lads is that there is a lot of good potential, we just haven’t reached it yet,” he said.

“We saw bits and pieces of it against St Mirren so I don’t see any reasons why we should be thinking we are going to be 11th or 12th or whatever. I think we should aim higher.”
