Bastian Schweinsteiger says that he expects to be fit for next month's European Championships, two months after suffering a knee injury.

Bastian Schweinsteiger has claimed that he is on course to return to fitness in time for Germany's Euro 2016 campaign.

The Manchester United midfielder has not played since suffering a knee injury while training with his national side in March.

The 31-year-old was named in Joachim Low's provisional 27-man squad, and has now claimed that he should be fit for the finals next month.

"I'm feeling good," Schweinsteiger told reporters in a press conference. "I've had a lot of communication with the physios and done all they have asked.

"It's looking very good and I'm very optimistic. I've got to get a bit closer to training with the team, but everything's going according to plan so far.

"The good thing is I know how to deal with tough situations and I've got to be optimistic. There is a plan for me and I'm following it precisely hour by hour. It worked two years ago at the World Cup, when I think I was in a worse position than now."

Germany will face Ukraine in their opening group match on June 12.
