January arrival Cenk Tosun vows to "play better and score more goals" after getting off the mark with his first strike for the club against Burnley.

Cenk Tosun has admitted that he has found it "difficult" during his first couple of months at Everton, but is hopeful of building on his maiden goal for the club.

The Turkey international had been linked with a swift return to former side Besiktas at the end of the season after failing to get off the mark in his opening handful of matches.

Tosun, overlooked entirely for selection by Sam Allardyce against Crystal Palace recently, has slowly started to adapt to the demands of English football and was rewarded with a goal against Burnley on Saturday afternoon.

Everton left Goodison Park without a share of the spoils, though, as the Clarets hit back with a couple of goals of their own, and Tosun admits to having mixed thoughts on the back of the 2-1 loss.

"I'm very disappointed because of the result but I am also happy because of the goal," he told the club's official website. "I will keep working and hopefully will score in the next game as well. It's good for my confidence because England is a tough league.

"It was not easy to settle in here but now I feel better, I feel sharper and I hope I will play better and score more goals in the next few weeks. In the first weeks it was difficult for me but now I feel more used to it and it's getting better all the time.

"We started well, we scored the first goal, and maybe after the first goal we could have scored the second and third. We couldn't score it and after half time Burnley put pressure on us and deserved their goals.

"It was not our best performance but we will keep working on it, forget this game and just focus on the Brighton game. We had a lot of chances, in the first half especially, and that is the positive we can take. We were more effective in the final third but we have to work hard to finish those chances more often."

Tosun netted 14 times for Besiktas in the first half of 2017-18 prior to joining Everton for £24m, including four goals in the Champions League.
