Everton boss Roberto Martinez has claimed that his team 'did not deserve to lose' against Manchester United in Sunday's Premier League clash at Old Trafford.

An even game saw both teams have chances during the 90 minutes, but French international Anthony Martial struck early in the second period to ensure that Man United would collect all the points on home soil.

Martinez has insisted that his team "stopped Man United from having control" and refused to hide his "disappointment" when questioned on the defeat after the match.

"It is a real disappointment. I thought that we stopped Man United from having control and we are really disappointed with the goal that we conceded. We had a couple of opportunities in the second period," Martinez told Sky Sports News.

"All in all, we need to do much better in terms of being able to turn a performance into a result. The difference between the two teams was minimal. We conceded possession too easily in the first period, but Joel Robles was very quiet in goal. I think that the game was in our hands, which is not what you expect when you travel to Old Trafford."

Everton remain 12th in the Premier League table on 38 points following their 10th league defeat of the campaign.
