Adam Lallana admits that his first England goal had been a "long time coming" after he netted in the last minute to earn the Three Lions a 1-0 win over Slovakia.

Midfielder Adam Lallana has acknowledged that his first England goal had been a "long time coming" after he netted a last-gasp winner to earn the Three Lions a 1-0 win over Slovakia.

It had been a night of frustration for Sam Allardyce's side until the Liverpool playmaker scored in the 95th minute to secure the perfect start to England's qualifying campaign for the 2018 World Cup.

The 28-year-old told ITV Sport: "It has been a long time coming. I put pressure on myself to score goals and I knew it was only a matter of time.

"I had a few chances. The one effort was just unlucky. We kept plugging away and as a unit, we played brilliantly tonight. They didn't have many chances so credit to the lads to how they've worked since the new boss has come in. It's a great start."

Lallana had been playing in his 27th match for his country since making his international debut in 2013.
