Jamie Vardy says that he is ready to take his chance at the World Cup should he be called upon by manager Gareth Southgate.

Jamie Vardy has admitted that he must be prepared to take any opportunity given to him by England boss Gareth Southgate at the World Cup.

Vardy was an unused substitute for the 2-1 victory over Tunisia on Monday, and the Leicester City frontman is expected to be named on the bench for Sunday's encounter with Panama.

However, Vardy has suggested that he is willing to remain patient in Russia, while ensuring that he is ready to make an impact for the Three Lions.

The 31-year-old is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "At the end of the day we are all here for one reason and that is to keep winning as many games as possible.

"You've just got to keep going and make sure you are putting in the effort on the training field and then getting into the gaffer's plans - hopefully get your chance - and then making sure you stay there.

"The gaffer has said that everyone who is here in the 23-man squad is going to be needed at some point, so you've obviously just got to stay focused and put the effort in and hopefully get your chance and that's when you have got to make sure it counts."

Vardy has scored seven goals in 22 appearances for England since making his debut in 2015.
