Wayne Rooney: 'Not the result England wanted'

England captain Wayne Rooney admits that the goalless draw with Slovakia was not the result his side wanted in their final Group B game at Euro 2016.

England captain Wayne Rooney has admitted that Monday's 0-0 draw with Slovakia in Saint-Etienne was not the result his side wanted.

The Three Lions needed a victory to ensure their place as group winners, but they were frustrated by Slovakia and ultimately could not find the breakthrough.

Wales's 3-0 win over Russia saw them leapfrog England to finish top of Group B, but Rooney, who was controversially left out of the starting lineup last night, was keen to look ahead to his side's last-16 match in Nice next Monday.

England will face the runners-up of Group F in the last 16, which could see them take on Hungary, Iceland, Portugal or Russia.
