Chelsea defender Benoit Badiashile has revealed whether he expects to remain at Stamford Bridge.
When signed for a fee in the region of £32.7m in January 2023, the expectation was that the former Monaco star would become a first-choice pick in the long term.
Instead, Badiashile has been restricted to just 55 appearances in all competitions, 11 of which came during last season's Conference League triumph.
Enzo Maresca's central-defensive options have since evolved to the extent where the France international is no more than fifth choice in the pecking order when everyone is fit.
Wesley Fofana, Levi Colwill, Trevoh Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo are the top four choices in the eyes of the head coach.
Badiashile speaks on Chelsea future
As a result, there has been ongoing speculation regarding Badiashile's future, particularly when he earned just 333 minutes of Premier League football during 2024-25.
Nevertheless, speaking to Footmercato, the 24-year-old has revealed that he intends to remain with the West Londoners for next season.
He said: "Yes, I will still be at Chelsea next season. The club, the coach, and all the staff give me a lot of confidence and believe in me. I will do everything to give back to them on the pitch.
"I love the club, the city, and the supporters. I hope to be able to make even more history with this magnificent club."
Wishful thinking?
With Badiashile holding a contract until 2030, Chelsea do not have to be in any rush to make decisions on the long-term future of the France international.
However, while they will value Badiashile's commitment, there is already a perception that Badiashile will never become first choice.
Furthermore, Maresca also has Mamadou Sarr and Aaron Anselmino who are viewed as future senior players, the former having just been acquired from Strasbourg and allegedly viewed as someone who will remain at the club for 2025-26.
If that is the case, it feels inevitable that offers will arrive for Badiashile, who could benefit from a season of regular football.
Not since 2020-21 has he managed to make more than 24 appearances in a top-flight season. That said, Badiashile had started the Club World Cup last-16 tie against Benfica before suffering an injury, something that will only raise his hopes that he is admired by Maresca.
