Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson admits that he did not expect to see his side turn their performances around as quickly as they have done.

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has admitted that he did not expect his players to react to his methods as quickly as they have done.

Hodgson picked up his first win in charge of the Eagles by shocking champions Chelsea at Selhurst Park on Saturday, registering their first points and goals of the season following a dreadful start to the campaign.

Palace remain bottom of the table with five points still separating them from safety, but Hodgson believes that the performance against Chelsea will prove to be a catalyst for them to kickstart their season.

"It took us a long while to get anything like this sort of team performance at Fulham; we didn't do it after a month. We'd have been into two or three months before we could say, 'Yeah, this is what we want, what we're looking for'," he told reporters.

"Hopefully now the players know that they can do it, because they've done it against the champions, so with 30 games to go, we're never going into a game not feeling that we can get something out of it."

Palace's next match comes away to Newcastle United on Saturday.
