Cesar Azpilicueta says that his confrontation with a Chelsea supporter after the 4-2 defeat with Arsenal "looked worse than it was".

Cesar Azpilicueta had admitted that he was "really angry" when he confronted a Chelsea supporter after the 4-2 defeat to Arsenal last week.

After the Gunners had prevailed in a chaotic London derby at Stamford Bridge, Azpilicueta was seen in a verbal exchange with a fan who was sitting in the front row of the stand.

Thomas Tuchel played down the incident during his post-match press conference, and Azpilicueta feels that the incident "looked worse than it was" on television.

However, the club legend has acknowledged that he had been frustrated with his own performance, and made a point of speaking with the supporter on Sunday when Chelsea faced West Ham United.

The defender told Sky Sports News: "It looked worse than it was, I agree with that, because it was at the end of the game and I was angry with my performance, the result, the penalty, everything. I spot him in the crowd but nothing with him.

"I express my view of that in this moment everybody was having a moment of difficulty, we were having less people in the stadium. We were in a moment of difficulty and we needed to push altogether in the same direction.

"The other day after the game I saw him again, I gave him the captain's armband. When there is respect and I'm the first to look at the images, it's not really me, I was really angry."

Azpilicueta is currently being linked with a move away from the West Londoners, a consequence of his contract being due to expire at the end of the season and club officials unable to hold negotiations over fresh terms due to the ongoing takeover process.
