Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel suggests that Mateo Kovacic and Hakim Ziyech are winning their race to be fit for Sunday's EFL Cup final.

Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel has revealed that Mateo Kovacic and Hakim Ziyech could be available for Sunday's EFL Cup final against Liverpool.

The pair both needed to be withdrawn during the second half of the Champions League fixture with Lille on Tuesday, Tuchel acknowledging that they were each injury doubts for the Wembley showpiece.

However, at his pre-match press conference, Tuchel said that the midfielder and playmaker had both featured in training on Friday.

Speaking to reporters, the Blues boss said: "Both are ok and since today, they were not only out on the pitch with their separate programmes, but everyone joined team training from the first to the last minute.

"We have, at the moment, no reactions, but positive reactions, and I hope it stays like this. We have another training session tomorrow to see if we have everybody available for Sunday."

Defender Reece James may earn a spot on the substitutes' bench after recovering from a hamstring injury.
