Result: Scunthorpe United hit back to hold Bolton Wanderers

Paddy Madden's penalty secures a 1-1 draw for Scunthorpe United as Bolton Wanderers miss out on a victory in pre-season.

Paddy Madden scored an equaliser from the penalty spot as Scunthorpe United held Bolton Wanderers to a 1-1 draw at Glanford Park this evening.

The visitors needed just three minutes to break the deadlock as Liam Feeney combined with Rob Hall to find Josh Vela, who fired home from the edge of the box.

Scunthorpe responded impressively, but they were denied an equaliser by a few inches when Luke Williams watched his effort strike Dorian Dervite before crashing against the crossbar.

Despite improving as the first half progressed, Neil Lennon's side were often left frustrated as they struggled to turn possession into opportunities after taking an early lead.

Scunthorpe continued to impress in attacking areas as they matched the Championship side, and they were rewarded early in the second half when Neil Danns brought down Gary McSheffrey in the box.

Paddy Madden stepped up to power home the penalty and begin another spell of Scunthorpe pressure as Bolton struggled to contain the hosts.

However, Bolton came close to regaining the lead against the run of play when Liam Trotter picked out Hall, who somehow managed to miss the target from just a few yards out.

Scunthorpe almost snatched the victory their performance arguably deserved late on, but McSheffrey could only send a shot wide after sprinting clear of the Bolton defence on the break as an entertaining finish failed to produce a winning goal.
