Real Betis forward Ruben Castro reveals his 'delight' after signing a fresh contract with his Spanish club, which will run until the summer of 2019.

Ruben Castro has revealed his 'delight' after signing a new contract with Real Betis until the summer of 2019.

The 35-year-old, who is Betis's all-time leading scorer with 138 goals in little over 250 appearances, had been linked with a move away in the summer after scoring 19 La Liga goals during the 2015-16 campaign.

However, the experienced forward has now penned a new deal in Seville which will run for the next three years.

"It was what we both wanted. I'm very comfortable here, I've been at the club for six years, it's the pace where I've been treated the best and played most of my football. It's a very happy day," Castro told the club's official website.

"A dream to retire at Betis? Not all players can say that, I'm lucky enough to say I want to retire here I'm very happy and the club are with me. What I've wanted has come true, hopefully I can retire here.

"I'm 35, but my body continues to put up a fight. I've played seven games this season and scored four goals. Until my body says so, I'll continue fighting to score goals and give my best for this club."

Earlier this season, Betis boss Gus Poyet admitted that he was 'desperate' for Castro to sign a new deal.
