Thiago Alcantara and Kingsley Coman kept Pep Guardiola's hopes of winning the Champions League with Bayern Munich alive after scoring in extra time to beat Juventus 4-2 (6-4 on aggregate) and book their place in the quarter-finals on Wednesday night.
Juventus sent shockwaves in Munich when Paul Pogba gave the Italians the lead in the sixth minute, and the hosts were stunned further when Juan Cuadrado added a second to the scoreline before the half-hour mark.
Robert Lewandowski gave Bayern hope when he converted a header in the 73rd minute, and after piling on the pressure in the final stages of the game, the German champions sent the match into extra time thanks to a 91st-minute header from Thomas Muller.

Inside the first two minutes of normal time Bayern tried to make an impact when Douglas Costa cut inside before drilling the ball towards Arturo Vidal, who got in behind the defence but his touch on the ball sent it straight to goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.
The movement seemed to be a sign of intent from Guardiola's side, but they were shoved on the backfoot in the sixth minute when Pogba opened the scoring.
While Juventus's approach was on point, Bayern were part of their own downfall with the defending as David Alaba failed to clear the ball once it was played over the top towards Stephan Lichtsteiner from Alvaro Morata.
Lichtsteiner was able to cut the ball back to Pogba, who fired low into an open goal after keeper Manuel Neuer came off his line.

Bayern were shell-shocked and they were unable to respond in the first half, despite having the majority of possession.
Guardiola's side patiently knocked the ball around the field, but they could not make an impact in the final third as Juventus stayed compact and sturdy, denying their opponents a way through.
Franck Ribery tried to make things happen for the German outfit as he latched on to the end of Costa's pass while situated close to the byline. The Frenchman directed a header at goal, but Buffon was able to rise and collect the ball in the air.
A powerful counter-attack from Juventus was Bayern's undoing for the second goal, and it stemmed from Morata, who surged from his own half past three of his opponents before playing the ball right to Cuadrado.

The Chelsea loanee switched feet in the box and evaded two defenders before sending the ball past Neuer and into the top right corner.
It was a frantic end to the first half as Muller forced a save from Buffon by drilling a low shot from the centre of the box, but the Italian kept him out.
Minutes later, Neuer was in action as Pogba's ball across to Morata eventually fell to Cuadrado, who attempted a shot from close range, but the goalkeeper saved at his near post.
Frustrations began to boil over at the start of the second half as four yellow cards were issued within eight minutes of the restart.

In terms of chances, it was much like the first half, with Bayern having most of the time on the ball and Juve making the most of their counter-attacks.
Morata came close to extending Juventus's lead, and it was thanks to Pogba dispossessing Ribery close to the byline in his own half.
The ball was eventually played forward to Morata, who managed to beat Alaba and get into the box before unleashing a shot, but it was a relatively tame effort and the ball fell to Neuer.
Minutes later, Morata caused trouble to Bayern's defence again as he broke away from his marker and cut inside the box before shooting, but the ball just grazed the top of the crossbar.

Bayern's crowd erupted 17 minutes from time when Lewandowski sent a header past Buffon from six yards out after getting on the end of Costa's cross.
From that point on, Bayern continued knocking on the door and tried to exploit tired legs in Juventus's defence.
Juventus fans had their hearts in their mouths when Lewandowski's header clattered off the post, but even if the Polish striker had scored, it would not have counted because the offside flag was raised.
The dream moment for Bayern came in the 91st minute when a cross from Kingsley Coman ended straight at Muller, who headed past Buffon and sent the game into extra time.
The two sides could not be separated in the first half of extra time, but the deciding goals came within two minutes of one another as substitutes Alcantara and Coman struck to earn Bayern a place in the final eight.
