Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman talks up his chances of a new contract at Camp Nou, claiming that he is keen to stay on "for many years".

Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman has outlined his intentions to remain in charge of La Blaugrana "for many years".

The former Netherlands and Everton manager nearly faced the axe last year after disappointing La Liga and Champions League finishes, but he retained the faith of re-elected president Joan Laporta and is in discussions with his colleague over a new deal.

Koeman has supposedly been told that he will only be offered an extension beyond 2022 if he secures the La Liga title this year, but the Dutchman is positive about his chances of a renewal.

Speaking to Sport and Mundo Deportivo, Koeman said: "I'm open to a renewal, I'm very excited to continue as Barcelona coach for many years.

"Despite the difficult moments in the club today, I think that thanks to the decisions made, coaching and the technical staff as well as the young players, I hope I can continue to coach here for three, four or five years.

"Above all, I consider myself a club man, I have always believed that I have a duty to help the club where I am, looking for formulas to improve the team without compromising the good of the club."

Barcelona have taken seven points from their first three matches of the 2021-22 La Liga season, and Koeman has won 37 of his 57 games in charge of the club since taking over from Quique Setien.
