Barcelona have cruised into the last 16 of the Copa del Rey after a 5-0 home win over Real Murcia on Wednesday night for a 8-0 aggregate scoreline.

The Blaugrana were dominant from the off and opened the scoring on the quarter-hour mark when Aleix Vidal flicked the ball across the box to the unmarked Paco Alcacer, who duly headed home.

Ernesto Valverde's charges continued to press forward but, with the result a foregone conclusion, could afford to play at a somewhat leisurely pace and did not add to their goal tally by the break.

Murcia, who play in the third tier of Spanish football, were little match for Barca, who struck their second in the 56th minute through a Vidal cutback which was slotted home by Gerard Pique.

From then on the floodgates were open as the hosts added a third just three minutes later, Vidal helping himself to a goal by running onto Nelson Semedo's cross with a diving header from inside the six-yard box.

Goal number four came in the 73rd minute, Sergi Roberto flicking a pass over the top to Denis Suarez, who controlled superbly before placing the ball beyond the keeper into the bottom corner.

Suarez then turned provider in the 78th minute as he diverted the ball into the path of Jose Arnaiz, who rifled into the far bottom corner to cap off a routine win for the La Liga giants.

Barca are looking to be the first club to win the Copa del Rey in four consecutive years since Athletic Club managed the feat in the early 1930s.
