Wolverhampton Wanderers are in discussions with Atletico Madrid to sign defender Felipe during the January transfer window.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly attempting to finalise a deal for Atletico Madrid defender Felipe.

Since the arrival of Julen Lopetegui as the club's new head coach, Wolves have been credited with an interest in a number of players who ply their trade in Spain.

Real Madrid pair Nacho and Mariano Diaz and Sevilla left-back Marcus Acuna have all been linked with a potential switch to Molineux in recent weeks.

However, over the past 24 hours, it has been suggested that the Premier League club are attempting to negotiate the transfer of Matheus Cunha from Atletico.

A report over the weekend suggested that Wolves officials had already instigated talks with the representatives of the Brazilian forward.

Now only has that been backed up by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Wolves are also said to be attempting to sign Cunha's teammate Felipe.

Romano says that Wolves are looking to pull off 'a package deal' with neither player in the immediate plans of Diego Simeone.

Cunha has made just two starts in La Liga and the Champions League this campaign, a further 14 outings coming from the substitutes' bench.

Meanwhile, Felipe has found game time much more difficult to come by, the 33-year-old making just three starts during 2022-23.

Atletico have lost on each occasion, going down to defeats to Bayer Leverkusen, Real Madrid and Mallorca, with just one appearance coming from the middle of September.

Nevertheless, since moving to Wanda Metropolitano in 2019, the Brazilian has made 112 appearances in all competitions, 31 of which came during Atletico's La Liga title-winning campaign in 2020-21.

With just under seven months remaining on Felipe's contract, Atletico are unlikely to demand a sizeable fee for a player who cost €20m in May 2019.

However, it remains unclear what Atletico's demands for Cunha will be, the 23-year-old possessing a deal with Colchoneros until 2026.
