Hertha Berlin's sporting director Arne Friedrich hints at the possibility of a permanent deal for on-loan Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi.

Hertha Berlin's sporting director Arne Friedrich has hinted at a permanent deal for on-loan Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi.

Guendouzi has impressed during his loan spell in the German capital, so far making 21 Bundesliga appearances for Pal Dardai's side.

It is no secret that Mikel Arteta wants to sell the 21-year-old after the pair fell out following a game against Brighton & Hove Albion last season.

Arsenal's desire to sell the Frenchman could come to fruition this summer, with Friedrich telling The Guardian that Hertha would be keen on keeping the player: "When you talk about Guendouzi and see his skills, you realise that he is a great player.

"I've also read that he had problems at Arsenal but here he behaves very well. He puts all of himself on the field. He is a great professional. Guendouzi's situation confirms that we must always understand how to help the players, with a talent like him it is worth it."

Guendouzi has registered 82 appearances during his time at Arsenal, making three of those appearances in last year's FA Cup competition which Arsenal won.
