Derby County reportedly hold talks with Arsenal over the signing of midfielder Jon Toral, who has failed to make the breakthrough at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal midfielder Jon Toral has reportedly emerged as a top transfer target for Derby County.

The 22-year-old has been contracted to the Gunners since 2014, but he has failed to make a first-team appearance for the North Londoners and has instead spent four loan periods elsewhere.

One of those spells came at Birmingham City, who were then managed by Gary Rowett, and according to The Sun, his former boss now wants to work with him at Derby.

Under Rowett, Toral netted eight times in 36 Championship appearances and talks have been held over a potential switch to the iPro Stadium.

The Spaniard endured a mixed campaign last year, with six appearances being made at Granada before he netted twice in 12 league matches for Rangers.

Rangers manager Mark Warburton arrives at the ground during the Scottish Championships match between Greenock Morton FC and Rangers at Cappielow Park on September 27, 2015 in Greenock, Scotland.
