Man City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan backs former boss Thomas Tuchel to succeed in England amid reports that he is in talks to take over from Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has backed Thomas Tuchel to be a success in England, amid speculation that he is being lined up to replace Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.

Wenger still has 18 months remaining on his contract at the Emirates Stadium, but reports this weekend claim that Tuchel has begun negotiations with the Gunners over taking the reins when the long-serving Frenchman decides to step down.

Gundogan, who worked under Tuchel during his time with Borussia Dortmund, has insisted that the 44-year-old has the ability to succeed in England should he make the move to the Premier League.

"I'm a big fan of his. I believe he's a world-class coach and that he can coach every big club in the world, for me that's not in doubt," Gundogan told reporters.

"I'm glad [he could go to England], I really enjoyed my one year playing for him and I learnt a lot in that time.

"I wish him all the best and have spoken to him a little since [leaving Dortmund]. I'm sure in the not too distant future he'll be managing a big club."

Tuchel, who has been out of work since being sacked by Dortmund last May, has also been linked with the Bayern Munich job.
