Arsenal and Manchester City meet in the League Cup final at Wembley on Sunday

Arsenal and Manchester City meet in the League Cup final at Wembley on Sunday and it couldn't make for a more intriguing match-up.

Interestingly, and perhaps surprisingly, this is a trophy that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has never won.

Wenger has led the Gunners to the final twice but they were foiled both times, in 2007 by Chelsea, and 2011 by Birmingham City. Arsenal, in fact, have been runners-up in this competition more times than any other club, having been the defeated finalists on five occasions.

Manchester City's record is far better, both historically and recently. The Citizens boast four wins in this competition, twice the number of Arsenal, including two successes in the last four years.

City, of course, go into this game fresh from having their hopes of a historic quadruple dashed by a shock defeat to League One Wigan in the FA Cup last week.

Although this will be the first time these two sides have met in the final of this competition, their Premier League clashes have certainly been entertaining affairs in recent times.

Both teams have scored in each the last five meetings, prompting hopes of an open game of football at Wembley.

Over 3.5 goals in the game is available at 5/4 with 888.com, and that's happened in three of the last five meetings between the sides, including this season's fixture at the Etihad, which Man City won 3-1.

A repeat scoreline is available at 10-1 with 888.com, and adding Sergio Aguero as first goalscorer makes for an enticing 30/1 scorecast.

Arsenal, though, should not be underestimated. They have a fine record of winning cup competitions lately, albeit the FA Cup being their speciality, and they have the talent to hurt Manchester City.

They are 47/20 with 888.com to win the trophy outright, and 17/4 to win it in 90 minutes and both are good value.

One factor may well be a lack of recovery time. The Gunners play in the Europa League on Thursday and, although it remains to be seen what kind of team Wenger selects, fatigue may play a part.

Arsenal, therefore, may start the stronger but fade. With that in mind, the 7/1 available with 888.com on Man City to concede the first goal yet win the game looks like a real tempter.
