Result: Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim laments players’ attitude after Angers loss

The Monegasques have not won since the opening day of the Ligue 1 season

Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim criticised his players’ attitude after Angers added to their Ligue 1 agony.

Stephane Bahoken’s first-half strike inflicted a third defeat on Monaco in seven games as Angers ran out 1-0 winners at Stade Louis II.

Monaco have won only once this season – on the opening weekend at Nantes – and are now in a lowly 16th place.

“In the last two games I have seen a lot of commitment,” Jardim told the official Monaco website.

“But tonight I’m disappointed. The team did not play with the attitude I asked them.

“There was technical waste and failed passes. We must move forward in these areas for the future.”

Monaco’s next test is at third-placed St Etienne on Friday.

St Etienne won 3-2 at Toulouse on Tuesday night and their only defeat of the season came away to league leaders Paris St Germain.

Jardim added: “The important thing is to recover and think of the game on Friday.

“We are facing a team of Saint-Etienne who has a lot of quality and we have to get points to go up the rankings.

“I want players to react to this situation and respond to supporters with a win on Friday. We must achieve a better performance.”

Angers’ win took them into the top half of Ligue 1 into ninth place.

“I was secretly hoping to finally bring back a result from Monaco after three negative results with small defeats in the last three years,” Angers manager Stephane Moulin was quoted as saying by L’Equipe.

“I told the players that this may be the right time.”
