Ruth Davidson is to investigate the relationship between the gambling industry and football in her maiden TV documentary for Channel 4.

Former Scottish Conservatives leader Ruth Davidson is to present a new one-off documentary for Channel 4 exploring the ties between the gambling industry and football.

The 42-year-old politician is a huge football fan and an active supporter of Scottish Championship side Dunfermline Athletic and is known to follow her team around the country whenever she can.

In Ruth Davidson Tackles Gambling and Football, the former journalist will look at the growth in football betting and gambling advertising within the game, as well as asking tough questions over whether the government is doing enough to combat gambling addiction among football fans.

"As a lifelong fan that grew up in a football household, I've watched as our national game has become saturated by gambling logos," said Davidson.

"From leagues to broadcasts, shirts to stadiums, gambling firms have infiltrated every nook and cranny of the game and use footy fans to push other products.

"I wanted to find out what potential harm this has caused - and whether we need a radical rethink to wean football off its gambling addiction."

The documentary is due to air later this year on Channel 4.
