Tom Allen will help a gay couple stage the wedding of their dreams in a new one-off programme for BBC One.

The BBC has commissioned a one-off programme hosted by Tom Allen to mark 10 years since same-sex marriage was legalised in England and Wales.

In My Big Gay Wedding, the comedian will help one gay couple stage the wedding of their dreams alongside some of his celebrity friends.

The programme will also see Allen meet some of the LGBTQ+ trailblazers who were instrumental to legalising gay marriage.

"The fact that same sex couples couldn't get married here just ten years ago means we should never be complacent about the progress we've made and so it's only right to celebrate it thoroughly," he said.

"I'm looking forward to making this joyous celebration of love & gay marriage, or 'garriage' as I like to call it."

Daisy Scalchi, the BBC's head of religion and ethics, added: "I am so excited about this film. To be celebrating this momentous anniversary with a couple at such an important time in their lives is a privilege.

"Tom is the perfect person to guide them towards their dream day, while reflecting on how we've got to now and what that means to so many."

The programme is expected to air on BBC One later this year.
